Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius, and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.
Welcome to my little home on the internet. I started this blog because I was forced into a home repair project in my newly-purchased home. And I was stupid crazy enough to get started on this massive DIY project with the web for my inspiration and my instruction. I learned a lot of lessons, I learned a lot of skills and now I want to share them with you.
When I first moved into my home, I was confronted with a massive leak in the bathroom, and most everything had to be gutted (my first gut job). I couldn’t afford to have a professional come in and renovate my bathroom, so I convinced myself that maybe I could do it. After all, it’s not rocket science, right?
I learned I didn’t know as much as I thought. And I also learned that sometimes that mattered and sometimes it didn’t. The bathroom was structurally sound and leak-proof, but it wasn’t perfect. Did that matter? Not really. Do I love it? Absolutely!
I have to admit, though, that it took me a little while to reach that point. Being a perfectionist at heart, I agonized over everything, making sure that whatever I was doing was perfect. Being my first ever project, I needed that peace of mind from hours of online research to make sure I was building it to code, doing it right, and ensuring a water tight bathroom. But it was incredibly stressful. And I wasted a lot of time trying to get it from really good to perfect (which it wasn’t anyhow). And I drove myself crazy.
I’m still trying to find that sweet spot between the two, but for my sanity I’m learning to let go a little, trust in myself and enjoy the challenges. In doing so I can create a home that reflects my personality, my lifestyle, my budget, and my environment. And the happy unanticipated outcome is that I bring more style, life and love into my home.
I hope to inspire you that you don’t have to settle for outdated or unfunctional elements in your home. –That you can fill your home with style and spirit. I want to show you that big projects ARE doable. I want to share some skills and inspiration, so that you can approach DIY with bravery and trust and create the home you love. Welcome!
